| I have a heavily shaded front lawn and since we moved in last summer I've struggled with thickening it up. I was skeptical of this product and tried the 4lb jug. I found it difficult to spread 1/16-1/8" thick layer as suggested so I did a little thicker, using the entire package over a roughly 3x5 foot area. And I was AMAZED at the results. Keeping it wet as directed I developed a very thick 3x5 foot area of grass! I've since purchased more and in greater quantities to fill in the thinner patches in my yard. This product is very easy to use. And as a nurse I get too worn out to mess around with yard stuff so this product is perfect for me. Scott's has a no-hassle guarantee so there's no risk in trying it out on your yard. I highly recommend! |
Excellent product... well worth the money

| If you can't get this stuff to grow then you're doing something wrong because this stuff works great. Never failed to grow extremely thick for me. All I do is sprinkle it on the ground and WATER, WATER, WATER. |

I have a very small lawn (10x10) in Southern California. I planted a lawn for the greenery and as a place for my two dogs to relieve themselves. As you can imagine, some of the dog urine kills the lawn. Where I have dead spots, I use this and it is AMAZING. I have found the important keys to using this product are:
1) Make sure to rake the area you will be growing new grass. I mean get in there and dig up the dirt so it is nice and loose.
2) Make sure to put at least 1-2 inches thick of the Scotts EZ on the loose dirt.
3) Water immediately and NEVER let the Scotts get dry. That is the key. If you need to water the area 2-3 times a day, so be it, it can't be dry.
4) You will see small sprouts of grass after about a week.
5) After 2-3 weeks, the grass is thick, luscious, healthy and GREEN!
I have been using this product on spots since about March and I am so happy I don;t have to buy heavy pieces of new sod to replace dead spots. I have been able to regrow grass in shade and sun equally, and the EZ seed is safe for my dogs as well. I can't sing my praises enough! If you do not have the patience to maintain the EZ seed during the first vital week- go buy yourself new sod. I promise if you make the effort, you will be rewarded with vibrant green grass. |
Worked Great!

| I had a bunch of dead spots in my lawn, and being that I live in Colorado, the soil is very hard and contains lots of clay. I turned up the soil in all the dead spots... and put down a layer of Scott's Easy Seed. I watered the lawn everyday for about 15-20 minutes... and within 3 weeks the seed began coming up, and now a little over a month...the dead spots are gone. The seed took.. even in the most barren places. I would recommend this product... just remember... turning up the soil and watering everyday is a MUST. |
Fantastic Product, worked better then expected...eventually

Three years ago I ripped out my entire yard and put new sod down. It looked great for a bit but like every other sod lawn I've ever seen it started to develop a few dead spots about 2 years in. I raked all the dead crap out, loosened the soil a bit and put ez seed down on it and kept it moist for a week or so.
The results last year (late summer early fall) last year were good but not great, I put it on about 2/5th of an inch thick and I thought it came out looking a bit sparse.
Fast forward to this year (spring, early summer 2010) and the spots I used this on look AMAZING. The grass in the areas I used this filled in quite nicely, are greener then green and look better then the surrounding areas (and those surrounding areas look pretty good). Not sure why it took so long but it was worth the wait. I have 1 or 2 spots this year I'm just filling in now and can't wait to see the results. 5 out of 5 in my book. |
Doesn't quite live up to hype but did work

| I bought this to fill in bare spots in my lawn which has some shady and sunny areas. It filled in the large areas (6' x 2') quite well but did not take in the small spots. The larger areas were in a sunny area. However it takes a lot of the seed to do the job. I have never reseeded before so do not know how this compares with other grass seeds. I gave it 3 stars as I was happy with the result but had to buy a lot of seed to achieve that result. It was still cheaper than resodding however! |
Doesn't quite live up to its claim !

| Followed directions to the letter but this seed did well in sunny areas but did not grow at all in shady areas. EZ to use but did not deliver as promised. Would not purchase again. |

Guaranteed easy to grow in all the hard places - dry, sunny areas, dense shade areas, poor soil areas, and even spreads to repair wear & tear. Scotts EZ Seed is a unique combination of Scotts high performance seed, premium continuous release fertilizer, and Scotts super-absorbent growing material. The growing material absorbs water and expands to surround and protect seed from drying out and dying out. EZ Seed also helps you know when to water. When the EZ Seed growing material turns light brown, it's time to water. Follow these easy steps to use 1. PREP - Prep by removing dead grass and loosening hard soil. 2. APPLY - Apply a 1/8" layer to bare spots (1/16" in thin areas). 3. WATER - Water until dark brown. When EZ Seed turns light brown, add more water! Fall and spring are the best times to plant grass seed, because seed germinates best when temperatures are between 60°F and 80°F. 3.75 lbs covers up to up to 80 sq ft.
